Orkidz was established in December 2001 under the ideal guidance of Mrs. Shelly Sawant, an educationist in her own right. The school’s founding philosophy was based on the principles of the world-renowned Italian physician & educator Dr. Maria Montessori who recognized that children’s best learning takes place through their senses & their physical activity within their environment. Education is thus seen as an “aid to life”, not just the mere learning of academic material.
Orkidz broadly encompasses 4 different activities:
- Playschool,
- Day Care,
- Tuitions &
- Activity Centre
1) Playschool: Our approach for the playschool students is based on the scientific observations to discover the child’s real needs & talent which focuses on :
. the innate ability of the young child to readily absorb knowledge & learn from the environment
. learning through play in every aspect of their nursery days
. the need for each child to spend time in purposeful activity
. that each child deserves full respect as an individual
. that the child’s first 6 years are the most important & that their earliest learning experience colour their whole approach to learning through adulthood
. that learning should be a rewarding experience
The curriculum & the teaching materials have been developed by identifying 5 niche areas paramount for a child’s growth :-
> Practical life skills
> Sensory motor activities
> Mathematical skills
> Language skills
> Cultural Knowledge
Computers, music, physical education, non toxic outdoor & indoor games & audio/video visual aids are used as mediums of education.
With a view of keeping abreast with the outside physical world, monthly field trips are arranged to places like fire brigade stations, railway stations, milk processing centers, Apna Bazar etc.
In order to hone the innate creativity skills of children, creativity classes are conducted by specially appointed teachers.
In order to develop religious tolerance & empathy for all religions in later life, all religious & national festivals are celebrated with traditional dresses & colour themes. Gifts & sweets are distributed amongst children & are taken around various places of worship.
In order to enhance the greater camaraderie, social behaviour as well as the physical development of the children, athletic meets are organised.
Personalised attention to each child is maintained with a teacher, student ratio of 25:2 who impart learning on the tender mind with the “play way” method of education. Learning is such so much more fun for the child
2) The Day Care Center is specially created for children of working parents to make them feel like their second home. With personalised attention, all children are kept busy with activities such as dancing, craft, drawing, playing instruments, carrom, business, snakes & ladders etc. Separate beds & quilt pillows coupled with personal bed time stories are regular features of the afternoon siestas. Personal maids ensure that the tiny tots learn to talk sooner rather than later. With hot water baths during winters, hot healthy foods & boiled water, children do feel at home here. After all this is their second home —–
3) Tuitions: Individual attention is given to each & every subject. Professional teaching is imparted with oral assessment & lots of revision tests.
4) Activity center conducts the following classes:

* Craft Classes
